One of my first BYOB dinners in Tokyo was at 148 Hiroo, the previous incarnation of 148@Azabujyuban.  Marcus Yip from Australia is the owner, chef, and a serious wine aficionado.  His knowledge of wine is only exceed by his passion for helping his clients enjoy great wine with their food.

Marcus can introduce some amazing Australian wine from the restaurant’s collection and often great Australian wine that is not yet known in Japan is on his radar.  For instance, Marcus had us try Torbeck before it  became well known in Tokyo.

In addition to great fusion cuisine, a friendly BYOB policy, and a great wine list, 148 also hosts some special themed dinners which are often a great value.  In the past, he has done themes such as Hawaiian roast pig, Indonesian home style, Australian style sushi.

If you are lucky or order in advance, you can have one of Marcus' T-bone steaks.  It is US Black Angus and weighs in at 700g to 1 kilogram.  You probably need a friend's help to finish it.
